Kentucky Derby parties are so much fun to host – break out your biggest fanciest hat and mint juleps and you’re off to the races!
Having a Kentucky Derby party? Make these cute horse cookies!
Made from Pepperidge Farm Dark Chocolate Milano Melts, Mini Nilla Wafers, licorice ropes, tootsie rolls for ears, and caramel for the mane (cut with a mini daisy cookie cutter).
Attach everything with melted chocolate or melted candy coating.
** The red licorice lace can be hard to attach so using a thin line of red frosting may work better!

Prep Time

Total Time
45 minutes
Ingredients
- Pepperidge Farm Milano Cookies (they don’t make the dark anymore)
- Mini Nilla Wafers
- Licorice ropes (I found that red frosting works better)
- Tootsie rolls
- Caramel
- Candy eyes
- Melted chocolate
- Black edible marker
Instructions
- Attach the candy eyes to the top part of the cookies as shown with the melted chocolate
- Next with the melted chocolate attach the mini Nilla wafer cookie to the bottom of the Milano cookie
- Now pipe a line of red frosting across the middle of the cookie.
- Soften the tootsie rolls and the caramel in the microwave for just a second or two. Shape the tootsie rolls into ear shapes.
- Roll out the caramel and cut it with a mini daisy cookie cutter for the mane.
- Attach the ears and mane to the cookies.
- Make 2 black dots on the Nilla wafer for the nose with an edible black marker.
** The red licorice lace can be hard to attach so using a thin line of red frosting works better!
